VIDEO: Don’t miss our ‘Virtual’ Bluebell Sundays

At this time of year, Haughley Park, near Stowmarket, is usually opening the gates ready for its popular Bluebell Sundays in aid of Wetherden Church, inviting people in to view the annual carpet of blue in the woods, the lambs in the park and the estate’s private gardens.

This year, the annual fundraising event has sadly fallen victim to the coronavirus closures but, not to be defeated, Haughley Park is offering a Virtual Bluebell Sunday instead, in return for donations to St Mary’s Church and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Owner, Robert Williams, said: “These open days have been held for more than 80 years and we were very sad when they were cancelled. Now, more than ever, we need the beauty of nature to lift our spirits. So, if people can’t come to Haughley Park, we will take Haughley Park to them and hopefully raise some money for charity along the way.”

The Virtual Bluebell Sunday tour, which also incorporates the estate’s parkland and formal gardens, is available to view here.

The Bluebell Sundays usually raise money for St Mary’s Church but, in response to the current crisis, this special online event is also supporting the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The medical charity is still responding to emergencies and saving lives during the COVID-19 outbreak and needs funds for additional PPE to keep its clinicians safe as they work.

Mr Williams added: “We sincerely hope everyone will join us for this uplifting tour through the bluebells and find a little joy during these difficult times.”
